[GreenYes] Reducing toner cartridge use

Does anyone have any experience with software that is said to be able to
reduce the use of ink by printers, thereby extending the life of the toner
cartridge? One firm (http://www.strydent.com) says that its software can
extend the life of the cartridge by up to four-fold, by reducing the ink
used during printing.

Does this work? Is this type of software something that we should be
promoting as a method of waste reduction?
