Check out the recent (1/30/02) report released by the New
England Zero Mercury Campaign that has a section discussing the
environmental issues related to fluorescent bulb usage. The potential
problem of mercury exposure from expanded use of efficient fluorescent
bulbs would be negligible if we had producer responsibility and take back
requirements in place for such products. You can access the report at
