Would anyone in your network have more information on this? The authorities
in Oaxaca, Mexico, are trying to deal with waste oils. The oils are
primarily from internal combustion motors (automobiles), collected at
mechanics/garages. They collect about 70,000 liters every month and a half
or two months, on average. At the moment, the oil is being taken to a kiln
that makes cement, lime and gypsum, and is burned there as fuel. The oil
has been tested and contains: oil, lead, calcium, zinc, magnesium, barium,
iron, sodium, potasium, copper, silicon, chrome, tin, manganese, arsenic
and cadmium.

They would like to know what alternative treatments are available for this
and what pollution would be expected from incinerating these oils.

 Espero que te acuerdes de mi, soy Mauricio Calzadías y trabajo en
Instituto Estatal de Ecología de Oaxaca con Blanca Zapata. Me pidio que te
enviara un e-mail con la información que pides sobre los aceites usados.
Son aceites que provinene de los motores de combustión y son recolectados
en los talleres mecánicos cuando se les hace el cambio de aceite a los
motroes de los automóviles. Está calculado que se recojen 70,000 litros
cada mes y medio a dos meses, aproximadamente y este aceite es llevado a un
horno donde se fabrica cemento, cal y yeso para la construcción
utilizandolo como combustible. Su composición química es la siguiente:
aceite base, plomo, calcio, zinc, magnesio, bario, hierro, sodio, potasio,
cobre, silicón, cromo, estaño, manganeso, arsénico y cadmio.

  Nos gustaría que pudieras indicarnos alguna alternativas de tratamiento
de estos aceites y que nos dijeras que contaminantes se producen con la
incineración de los mismos. Te comento que como hemos tenido problema con
el servidor del Instituto, envíes la información a esta dirección
