[GreenYes] RE:Green Grade School/Kids for Zero Waste

Stephan -- Thanks for passing along this link; a great story. My nine
year old daughter attends a school that, among many other things, "grows
their own salad bar" and doesn't even put trash cans in each class room.
To those students, and hundreds of thousands more, this is the framework
within which they assess the world.

Kids represent a potent force in our quest for Zero Waste. Many
college-aged environmental activists were first turned on to the
environment because of recycling. Looking for something more, Zero Waste
is their natural next step. Imagine if in every state capitol thousands
of 6-21 year olds walked in and said "We'd like Zero Waste in our
future; how much waste do you want to give us?"

The indignant third grader pointing to an obsolete computer or to some
excessive packaging may be the 21st century Zero Waste movement's
replacement for the 1970's tearful Native American.

Kids already have the vision; let's figure out how they can help us make
it a reality.
