[GreenYes] Capture Rates
This week's Waste News' coverage of Berkeley's prize money for a household without any recyclables in their garbage ("A winner at last") is telling. Berkeley would seem to be one of the epicenters of recyclables, yet, according to the story, it took 15 weeks sampling 20 randomly selected homes each week, to find one without any recyclables in the trash.

With diversion rate gains all but stalling out nationally, we need to vigorously address what can be done to keep momentum, whether it be the addition of new materials such as mixed paper or reinvigorated education to boost capture rates of existing materials.

                                                                    Peter
