If your community holds a Household Hazardous Waste event, the 5 gallon
buckets are very useful for recycling latex paint that can then be
redistributed throughout the community. I used to organize an annual HHW
event in North Idaho, that had volunteers pour residual good latex paint
into these buckets, keeping like colors together. People in the community
signed up for the paint and took it away. This program worked very well,
if you'd like more info, I'd be happy to give you more.
