Today, an agreement was signed amongst TECPAR, the technological institute
of
the State of Parana, the Fundacao Banco do Brasil, the ZERI Foundation
(Geneva),
the ZERI Brasil Foundation and Ambiente y Medio, the Colombian owners of the

technology to separate all the layers of aseptic packaging. The first
separation
plant of the ZERI-based technology which considers aseptic packaging as an
outstanding
resource for aluminium, high quality plastics, paper and cardboard will be
operational
within 6 months. This will be the reference project for Brazil.

The co-operation agreement is a direct result of the 5th World Congress
which
was held in Colombia only one month ago. It is one of the ten major
initiatives
which will be shown at the World Expo in Hanover in June 2000. The
initiative
taken by the Mayor of Curitiba and the State Secretary of Science and
Technology
of Parana, is a demonstration that the technologies needed in the South to
deal
with waste generated by companies from the North can indeed be a source of
income
and jobs, while relying on local creativity and entrepreneurship. A similar
initiative
has been taken by the Mayor of Pereira, Colombia and at least 5 more
announcements
are expected in the next few months.
