As Ann Schneider suggested in her posting of 4-29-99, I sent an email to =
HP regarding their lobbying efforts. =20
I recently purchased a HP printer. HP made a point of indicating how =
much they had reduced packaging, used recycled materials, etc. in the =
production and shipping of the printer. =20
I pointed out in my email that their actions regarding the toner =
cartridges do not seem to be consistent with their environmental efforts =
detailed in the printer package. Yesterday, I received the following =
from HP. Before I call this gentleman I would like to have more details =
on the bill in question and feedback from any interested parties.
Thank You,
Veronica Torres

Ms. Torres:
I am replying to your recent communication to Hewlett-Packard Company=20
regarding pending legislation dealing with printer cartridges. =
Your=20
e-mail did not mention a state or bill number so it is difficult to =

respond with any specifics. =20
=20
In general, however, reducing the volume of solid waste that goes =
to=20
the landfill is a high priority for HP. At the same time, HP wants =
to=20
offer its customers a printer cartridge that meets their printing=20
requirements for quality and reliability. Our view is that=20
responsible legislation must address both of these requirements.
=20
If you could reply with a phone number and convenient time to call, =
I=20
would welcome the opportunity to clarify questions you may have =
about=20
HP's position on these matters.
=20
Best regards,
