While searching for something else, I came across a recording of
National Public Radio's Science Friday show from June 11th on the
topic of solid waste, recycling and zero waste, with the following link on
the web page of the Institute of Local Self Reliance:

http://www.ilsr.org/recycling/

The show is really excellent, and includes a staff member of the
Congressional Research Service, Bill Wolpin, editor of Waste Age, and
Brenda Platt of the ILSR. What struck me was the wide divergence in
opinion as well as the expertise of the CRS staffer. First part of the
show is a short news segment on a physics topic, with the bulk of the
broadcast on solid waste issues.

To find this link from the above site, look for the first item in the
Miscellaneous Information category.

And, of course, the ILSR has many other excellent references to other
solid waste publications and fact sheets.
