Waste Management Assistance Division

The Waste Management Assistance Division provides planning and marketing
assistance on pollution prevention, waste reduction and recycling to
Iowa business and industry and local governments. The Division
currently has a vacancy for the Bureau Chief. Responsibilities include
overseeing the direct, day to day operations of the Bureau, including
supervising 37 full-time and part-time professional staff. The Bureau
Chief also works closely with the Division administrator on planning and
policy issues and with stakeholder advisory groups.

Customer services delivered by the Division include:

Solid Waste Comprehensive Planning
Solid Waste Alternative Financial Assistance
Waste Reduction and Assistance Program
Waste Tire Management
Household Hazardous Materials
Pollution Prevention
Regulatory Integration

This position will work out of the Department of Natural Resources,
Wallace State Office Building. Anticipated work hours are Monday
through Friday, 8 to 430 am. Some travel is required.

Desired background/requirements: Management experience. Proven track
record of results. Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to effectively delegate tasks, supervise subordinate employees,
and ensure completion of objectives.

Department of Personnel. Qualified applicants must meet the minimum
qualifications as established by the Iowa Department of Personnel.
Basic criteria includes: Graduation from an accredited four year
college or university and five years of professional level experience
such as program administration, development, management or operations.
An equivalent combination of experience/education may also qualify.
