According to the 5/99 Plastics in the Environment (U.K.), Coke "is keen to
defend itself against the accusations of environmentalists that it has
failed to incporate sufficient recycled PET in its plastic bottles. GRRN is
among the environmental groups which have accused Coke of renegin gon a
pledge to incorporate recycled plastics. More recently several cities and
countys have adopted resolutions criticizing COke, including...Alameda
county, CA. The recycling technolgoy that it pioneered in the early 1990s
to incorporate recyclate in tis bottles proved extremely costly, and after
three years Coke was forced to phase it out. However, it continues to lend
its support to technological innovateions, which could incorporate recycled
PET in quality food and drink containers in a more cost-effective fashion."
