In speaking to Bob Lund, remanufacturing expert, he advocates against
product takeback legislation. He feels that product takeback programs
actually hurt small remanufacturing businesses by taking away their raw
materials (I hope I haven't misrepresented him on this!). I don't know if
he has any statistics on this, I could ask him, if anyone out there is
interested. Seems to me that the companies that have to take back their
materials can subcontract, and perhaps even subsidize, small
remanufacturers. But I thought I'd pass that along.
