I am personally not a big fan of SUV's. to say the least.

But lets face it:
1. make gas $2 a gallon and you'd see a big change in preferences.
Remember when Clinton tried to promote a $.05 gas tax? It bombed.

2. make landfill tip fees at least $100 a ton and recycling would all of a
sudden get "economic"
Last year in Virginia we couldn't find a single sponsor for a $1 tip fee.
This year, after a major flap and a major assist from Mayor "culture"
Guliani, we got a $1-2 tip fee. Easier said than done.

are pretty spoiled in
the U.S. with cheap everything.
