Looks interesting. Maybe some European companies, foundations, int'l
organizations would be interested in helping to get things moving on
this side of the Atlantic.

TAKEBACK LEGISLATION CONFERENCE
'Managing End-of-Life Electronics Products'
November 25-26, 1997
U.S. EMBASSY LONDON

The U.S. Embassy in London invites executives with environmental
responsibilities from retailers, manufacturers, importers, and component
suppliers to the ECTEL Takeback Conference. The conference will be of
interest to all companies interested in the highly relevant and timely
subject of takeback legislation and the management of end-of-life
electronics products. Economic, logistical and environmental implications
of upcoming takeback legislation will be presented and reviewed. It will
also provide an excellent networking opportunity. The conference is
organized and supported by ECTEL (European Communications and Professional
Electronics Industries Association) whose members include Alcatel, Ericsson,
Motorola, Nokia, Panasonic and Philips.

Leading international speakers will be at the Embassy discussing this
important issue on November 25 and 26, 1997. Speakers include:

Dr. Ludwig Kraemer, Head of Waste Management Policy Unit, DGXI
Mans Lonnroth, Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Sweden
Carolyn Abel, Head, Recycling Policy Section Directorate, DTI, UK
Juergen Schmoelling, Federal Environmental Agency, Berlin
Seth Davies, OECD Environment Directorate

This conference will discuss current viewpoints on the discrepancies between
the expectations of legislators, regulators, and international trade
officials versus the needs of industry. It offers a unique opportunity for
policy makers, industry leaders and other interested parties to present and
debate the many complex issues surrounding takeback. It will also point
towards new commercial opportunities.

Furthermore the conference will act as a forum for the ECTEL Takeback Group
to launch its report on the results of pilot schemes organized in the U.K.
and in Sweden. These pilot programs examine the opportunities and
obstacles facing the industry sectors looking for practical solutions to
takeback issues.=20

ORGANIZED & SUPPORTED BY THE FOLLOWING MEMBERS OF ECTEL: Alcatel, Ericsson,
Motorola, Nokia, Panasonic, Philips.
