TITLE
ISO 14000 A Guide to the New Environmental Management Standards
By Tom Tibor with Ira Feldman

DESCRIPTION
The ISO 14000 series of environmental management standards now under
development by the International Organization for Standardization
(ISO) are certain to affect every aspect of a company's environmental
operations. ISO 14000 has captured the attention of business and
governments worldwide and, following in the footsteps of the ISO 9000
quality management standards, ISO 14000 registration may become a
global passport to doing business for thousands of companies.

ISO 14000 A Guide to the New Environmental Management Standards is a
comprehensive, preview of the ISO 14000 series for companies that
want to know what ISO 14000 is, how it will affect them, and what
they can do about it. The book explores the ISO 14000 series in
detail. It traces the development of the standards and describes each
standard under development including environmental management
systems, environmental auditing, environmental labeling,
environmental performance evaluation, and life cycle assessment. It
also discusses some of the international and domestic implications of
the standards, the probable registration process and other relevant
environmental management standards and regulations, including the
European Union's Eco-Management and Audit Regulation.

Following is some information about a second project on ISO 14000, a
contributor-written volume for which Tom is soliciting contributors.

"The book is entitled Implementing ISO 14000. Implementing ISO 14000
will be a comprehensive, practical reference to assist environmental
managers in developing and implementing effective environmental
management systems (EMS) that comply with the requirements of
standards such as the ISO 14000 series now being developed by the
International Organization for Standardization (ISO) as well as
similar initiatives, such as the European Union's Eco-Management and
Audit Scheme regulation.

"Implementing ISO 14000 will be primarily contributor-written. I am
looking for additional contributors to discuss various aspects of
environmental management. I am ESPECIALLY INTERESTED in case studies
from companies that are either implementing an environmental
management system now or are planning to do so in the future.

"Topic areas in the proposed book include but are not limited to the following:
-- Practical advice in implementing an effective EMS program
-- Auditing an environmental management system as compared to auditing for
compliance
-- Environmental training and awareness for employees
-- Internal and external communication of environmental information
-- EMS documentation and information management systems and methods
-- Ways to measure environmental performance
-- Management review of the environmental management system
-- EMS implementation guidance for ISO 9000-registered companies
-- The practical use of life cycle analysis concepts and methods
-- Environmental labeling issues
-- ISO 14000 registration and the registration process
-- Sector-specific case studies of EMS implementation
-- Related topics such as Design for the Environment, Environmentally
Conscious Manufacturing Environmental Accounting, and Industrial
Ecology"
