I am writing to express my concern over the pressure that mining
interests are applying to the EPA to kill the initiative that would
expand TRI reporting to include mining wastes.

Most of the general public is aware that reclamation and recycling
reduces the burden on our natural resources. However, the waste and
environmental harm that is created by the extraction of raw materials
are not areas of common knowledge. Expanding TRI reporting to
include mining wastes will help build awareness in this regard,
further communicating the beneficial role that recycling plays in our
economy. Additionally, including mining wastes in the TRI would seem
to be required by the intent of the Emergency Planning and Community
Right-to-Know Act.

I strongly urge you to uphold the intent of the Law and not give in
to the special interests of the mining industry.

Sincerely,

David B. Reynolds
