I see my recent article attacking the NY Times has preceded me here, but
I've signed onto this list as well. By way of introduction, I was
involved in researching solid waste and recycling for quite a few years at
Tellus Institute, then moved to Tufts University last year, where I'm
primarily involved in developing alternatives to conventional economic
theory and teaching materials.

My forthcoming book (which I will NOT continue advertising here, after
this paragraph) draws on the lessons of our massive studies of recycling
at Tellus Institute, plus additional research on the subject -- and
argues that it is important to focus on the environmental benefits of
recycling, even when, as often happens, municipal recycling falls just
short of saving money for a community. The book is "Why Do We Recycle? /
Markets, Values, and Public Policies", Island Press, December 1996.
Anyone who would like to review it for publication, or get advance
information about possible classroom use in the spring semester, should
e-mail direct to me -- not the whole list.

Enough about me; I look forward to hearing what everyone else on the list
is up to.
