[GreenYes] Re: leaching plastics in landfills?

Hi Elizabeth

I came across this article from Dr Mercola's eNewsletter and thought you
would be interested to read it:

Full report on Bottled Water

I extracted some useful information from these link:

"Every year 1.5 million tons of plastic are used to bottle water.

Plastics that are safer to use for storing food and beverages, none of
which are known to leach harmful substances, include:

* Polypropylene, designated "#5 PP"
* High-density polyethylene, designated "#2HDPE"
* Low-density polyethylene, designated "#4 LDPE"

Toxic chemicals can be released into the environment during the
manufacture and disposal of the bottles. Furthermore, a quarter of the
89 billion liters of water bottled worldwide annually are consumed
outside their country of origin. Emissions of the green house gas carbon
dioxide, caused by transporting bottled water within and between
countries, contribute to the global problem of climate change."
