Environmental Defense has a terrific paper calculator at http://www.papercalculator.org that includes trees, water use, water pollution, air pollution, and more, with conversions to everyday comparisons. It is a more user-friendly version of the calculator they originally built for the Office of the Federal Environmental Executive website. You will need either Internet Explorer or Firefox to work with the interactive data. If you want to go into some of the background on how the tree stats were arrived at and what they mean for typical products, you can check the statistics page on Conservatree's website at http://www.conservatree.org/learn/EnviroIssues/TreeStats.shtml We worked with Environmental Defense on the calculations for "how many trees" for their paper calculator.
