This whole business of the US ( or any other country for that matter)
shipping one commodity (scrap PET bottles in this case) to another country
and then importing that commodity from yet another country doesn?t make
economic sense to my wee brain and it makes even less sense from an
environmental view point.  We?re wasting resources in an effort to conserve
resources.

Very true, that.



FYI, last year while in Uruguay I was told that while they used to export
all their recovered PET (they recover fairly high percentages (for a LAC
nation) due to the voluntary agreement with the Environment Directorate) to
China, they no longer do so because next door Argentina would buy all they
had to offer.



Also told that much of the PET recovered in Mexico these days is exported ?
but not to China.  Reportedly they export to the US.  Been trying to get
reliable figures on that?

from the US and elsewhere

Take Three Guesses. Who does the title above refer to? Not a particular
recycling firm. I'm talking countries here! Nope. Wrong! Not the US! Not
some European country. In fact, this country recycled PET at nearly double
the US rate, and 10% or more than Europe, Japan or Australia. Guessed it
yet?
