[GreenYes] Any contaminants in biodegradable foam peanuts?

I received the following note from a citizen about any contaminants in the biodegradable foam peanuts. Has anyone heard of any concerns?

Hi John!    I have a recycling question for you.  I have a bag full of those foam peanuts that turn to mush in water, so I think they're the ones that are supposedly biodegradable.  I'm considering getting them wet and dumping them on my compost pile, but since I use the compost in the garden, I don't want to do that if they have nasties in them.  Do you know?
