Hi John - The easiest way to tell whether the packing peanuts have anything in them besides cornstarch is to have your citizen melt one in a glass of water. If there is any plastic binding agent (doubtful ... cornstarch itself is a binding agent), there will be visible residue. -----Original Message----- From: GreenYes@no.address [mailto:GreenYes@no.address]On Behalf Of LC Sent: Tuesday, September 05, 2006 11:59 AM To: GreenYes Subject: [GreenYes] Re: Any contaminants in biodegradable foam peanuts? John, I have heard that some still contain a polymer as a binding agent. I would check with the manufacturer before I added it to my pile. I have a bag full of those foam peanuts that turn to mush in water, so I think they're the ones that are supposedly biodegradable. I'm considering getting them wet and dumping them on my compost pile, but since I use the compost in the garden, I don't want to do that if they have nasties in them.
