You'll have big shoes to fill! ;) - Christine ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMS SPECIALIST The City of Falls Church, Virginia has an immediate vacancy for an Environmental Programs Specialist. Individual selected will be responsible for development, coordination, and promotion of the Cityâs residential and local government recycling programs, as well as provision of technical assistance in recycling to schools, multi-family dwellings, and businesses; promotion of litter prevention and for enforcement of the Cityâs solid waste code; development, coordination, and promotion of watershed education related to the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) outreach requirements. RESPONSIBILITIES: Â Develops and implements recycling, litter prevention, solid waste code enforcement & watershed education programs. Â Plans, organizes, supervises, and evaluates recycling, litter prevention, and watershed education activities for all sectors, groups, and ages of the community; coordinates the activities of citizen volunteer groups. Â Prepares promotional materials related to recycling, litter prevention, and watershed education for residents, schools, businesses, and institutions. Â Makes presentations to schools, civic groups, and clubs. Â Researches and develops resources for recycling, litter prevention, and watershed education programs. Â Represents the City on inter-jurisdictional and regional boards and committees. Â Prepares staff reports; prepares bid specifications and administers contracts and agreements. Â Develops grant applications; administers grants. Â Serves as staff liaison to citizen councils and task forces and coordinates their activities. Â Receives complaints and documents violations of the solid waste code; issues notices of violation. Â Responds to citizen questions and complaints regarding recycling, litter prevention, solid waste code enforcement, and watershed education. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelorâs degree from an accredited college or university, with course work in environmental studies, natural resources management, marketing, or related topics. Knowledge of and experience in planning developing, and promoting recycling, litter prevention, watershed management, or other environmental programs. Require extensive experience working with volunteers and community groups. Demonstrated ability to communicate ideas effectively, both orally and in writing; to establish and maintain working relationships with City officials, associates, and the general public; and to prepare records and reports. Possession of an appropriate driverâs license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS: $46,308 â 74,093.
