There is a lot of information in the article and many things to comment on, but for brevity's sake, here are some thoughts on the question of: What is better for the environment: Expanded polystyrene/styrofoam plates versus paper? - Not much decomposes in a landfill; they are designed to "mummify" trash. -All plastic is expected to take a LONG time to biodegrade, some estimate several centuries. Paper, however, can be composted in local facilites...if you have a program for that (most places don't). Those with yards should be encouraged to invest in a backyad compost, and then you can almost certifiably argue that they should 1) first, always use a reuseable 2) or, second, use paper if need be, but bring it home to compost it. Disposable items made of materials that take centuries to naturally biodegrade is foolish. But disposable items, in general, will cause some problems. Encourage reuseables fist, paper second, and plastic dead last. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "GreenYes" group.
