Subject: [GreenYes] Incentive programs for household recycling

Does anyone know of any communities or private haulers that are providing a
direct financial incentive to households to recycle? I am thinking, for
example, of a reduction in the solid waste cost to the household based on
the number of times the recycling container is put out, or the weight of
recyclables in the container.

I am aware of systems that give an incentive for waste reduction and
recycling by charging for the non-recycled materials on a per bag or
container (or size of container), but wonder if anyone has done anything
more directly on the recycling side of the system.

Thanks much,

John Reindl, Recycling Manager
Dane County, WI
