[GreenYes] Biomass to ethanol agendas.

With growing interest in alternative fuels lately, ethanol is
increasingly receiving higher priority.

Already, (at least here in California), gasoline contains a ten percent
blend of ethanol. If a twenty percent blend of ethanol (E20) is offered
at some filling stations (as many vehicles can easily run on a twenty
percent blend), then biomass sources e.g., yard-wastes, wood wastes,
agricultural wastes, etc. would have to be collected and distilled into
ethanol.

The demand for E85 fuel blends will lieky remain in niche markets e.g.,
government fleets.

The present supply from only a handful of ethanol plants are no longer
sufficient to meet demand; which may even double over the next couple
of years.

The following link is on biomass wastes in California; the nation's
largest producer of biomass wastes. I can attest to this as I'm from
the older Los Angeles suburbs which produce lots of yard and wood
wastes. Over the last several years, biomass wastes have been turned
into (a glut) of compost. With too much of this compost available (for
free), the time is becoming increasingly ripe top turn biomass into
valuable energy resources.

Biomass in California: Is it a Valuable Resource?

At this time, ethanol, (a twenty percent blend at that) can only defray
fossil-fuel usage; there are far too little biomass waste resources
available to make a major difference in energy consumption.
