[GreenYes] California Chemical Policy Symposium, 3/16-17, 2006, Oakland, CA

Apologies for Cross-Postings

CALIFORNIA CHEMICAL POLICY SYMPOSIUM
March 16-17, 2006
Elihu Harris State Building
Oakland, CA

CURRENT SPONSORS
Fred Gellert Family Foundation
Environmental Finance Center Region IX
WELL Network
Delegation of the European Commission to the US, Washington, DC

This symposium will build on a series of meetings over the past year
that have explored integrated chemical policy initiatives including
the European Union's REACH initiative; green chemistry; and, more
broadly, comprehensive environmental planning and investment
approaches at the state, national and international levels.

Who should attend? Critical policy-makers, business
leaders, nonprofit advocates, scientists and academics.
What is the purpose? To examine the feasibility of a California
statewide chemical policy, and create an ongoing roundtable of
stakeholders in a co-operative endeavor to explore the potential for
a comprehensive approach to a healthier and cleaner environment.
What will participants do? Examine existing state and federal
chemical policies and identify the barriers and opportunities
inherent in each approach. Panels led by policy-makers, labor, health
and environmental nonprofits, and industry will explore the potential
for a comprehensive policy and define what a Statewide California
Chemical Policy should include. The panels will be followed by
breakout sessions at the end of day one and a policy roundtable on day two.

To facilitate discussion, capacity will be limited and a broad
diversity of attendees will be sought from California primarily, and
the Pacific Northwest. Stakeholders and individuals from the State
of New York, who have indicated interest in a bi-coastal
collaboration to explore comprehensive chemical policies in each
state, are also invited.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you!
Susan
