Dear Green Yessers- Some of you may be familiar with the white paper presented at the Environmental Grantsmakers Association retreat last October. The paper was called ³The Death of Environmentalism.² I read it with extreme interest just after the ³election,² and it got me thinking about what environmentalism really is (especially historically). It may be a rather attention getting, over-simplified argument, but there are some very important kernels of truth to be found in the authors¹ arguments. The main point of the paper is that mainstream environmental groups have not been successful in raising national awareness and political interest in Global Warming. Forget the George Bush cabal for now, just have a conversation with a non-environmental professional in your neighborhood. Anyway, I have a six-part essay that just started at <http://getunderground.com/> which is an attempt to organize my thoughts and ask questions for us all about the future of American environmentalism. If you¹re interested, check it out. If you want a pointer to the actual Death paper, the first sentence in Part I of the essay should take you there. Parts II-VI will be published every two weeks through December. I hope you all are well and that those in Rita¹s path stay safe this weekend. David Biddle, Executive Director P.O.
