Interesting concept - been reading Bjorn has he...? Crichton has a 
long-running
habit of stealing and Hollywoodising others ideas, from Satan Bug [became
Andromeda Strain], through Terminal Man [bits of Brunner's Shockwave Rider
and sone Alfred Bester], to Jurassic Park [Doyle's Lost World with a big 
chunk
of Brit SF mag 2000AD's cloned dinosaur park Judge Dred episodes, circa 
1978/9]...

Nick Drake! Round these parts he was a folky singer-songwriter, very good 
too.
