Stephan - I believe you may be splitting hairs. All cans have a protective chemical coating - both food and beverage cans. To the best of my knowledge they have never presented a problem for recycling. As for contamination rates - you may want to check the ISRI (Institue of Scrap Recycling Industries) specifications: http://www.isri.org/. Otherwise I would talk to Bill Hennan at the Steel Recycling Institute http://www.recycle-steel.org/. Not sure who you should talk to about aluminum - sorry! You should also check with the end market to which you'll be selling your materials. There could be variations on the official specifications. Good luck!
