> On behalf of Covanta Energy, the City invites you to an H-POWER (Honolulu
Resource Recovery Venture) Open House on Saturday, September 25, 2004 from
1:30-4:30 p.m.  H-POWER, Oahu's waste-to-energy plant, began operation in
1990 and today converts more than 2,000 tons of waste per day into
electricity to power more than 60,000 homes.  On Oahu, waste-to-energy works
in partnership with recycling efforts to significantly reduce the amount of
waste going to landfills.

look at the cornerstone of Honolulu's integrated waste management system.
The City and County of Honolulu and Covanta Energy also seek input regarding
proposed expansion of the facility.  The expansion would add a new, third
boiler to the plant -- enabling it to process an additional 120,000 tons of
solid waste per year and prevent that waste from being sent to Oahu's
landfill.
