PART-TIME INFORMATION SPECIALIST

DATE:			October 20, 2003		
HOURS: 			Part-time, 20 hours per week. Monday - Friday,
day hours. Occasional evening or weekend hours required.
STARTING PAY:		$10.50/hour, subject to adjustment based on
performance.
BENEFITS:		Personal days and holidays.
REPORTS TO:		Communication Coordinator

BACKGROUND: Eureka Recycling is a nonprofit organization serving Saint
Paul and Twin Cities area residents and businesses.  Its purpose is to
provide cutting-edge waste reduction and recycling services, information
and programs that provide the greatest environmental results and are
economically sustainable. Eureka Recycling's current programs directly
serve 114,000 single-family and multi-family households and numerous
municipal and community buildings in the city of Saint Paul as well as
residents throughout Anoka, Ramsey and Washington Counties. 

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The information specialist is responsible for
answering Eureka Recycling's environmental hotlines. This position
requires a highly organized and self-motivated person who is able to
manage different projects simultaneously. It requires a person who can
anticipate and prioritize tasks, balance his or her workload, meet tight
deadlines and communicate professionally with diverse types of people on
a daily basis. This person will work with communications coordinator and
other members of the communications team to improve the operations of
the Eureka Recycling communications room. In addition, the information
specialist will assist with a variety of projects.

Eureka Recycling is seeking an individual with customer service
experience who has exceptional organizational skills, takes initiative
and pays attention to detail.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 
1. Accurately answer Ramsey County and Saint Paul residential solid
waste and recycling hotlines, mail relevant literature to callers,
disseminate information to community groups and provide information to
Eureka Recycling staff.
2. Resolve customer service issues in a professional manner.
3. Read city and county maps with speed and accuracy.
4. Provide staff and route support services by taking messages,
directing calls and sending out mailings.
5. Help create and maintain accurate internal and external information,
systems and literature.
6. Keep written and computerized program information up-to-date and
organized.
7. Take a lead role on special projects and assist with special projects
when necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. One year experience in customer service related work required.
Experience answering multiple phone lines preferred. 
2. Excellent oral and written communications skills.   
3. Demonstrated ability to develop project timelines and manage projects
and tasks.
4. Accomplished computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets
and Access database skills, and Internet and e-mail proficiency. 
5. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to prioritize and meet
deadlines.   
6. Ability to handle and track multiple tasks while maintaining
attention to detail.
7. Ability to read city and county maps with speed and accuracy.
8. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. 
9. Commitment to the environment and to working with community-based
organizations and culturally diverse communities.
10. Spanish or Hmong language skills a plus.
