Judge rules in favor of Lexmark in toner cartridge ´chip war´ case
"SANFORD, N.C. (Feb. 28) -- A federal judge ruled Feb. 27 against Static
Control Components Inc., prohibiting the company from supplying a microchip
that facilitates the remanufacturing of certain Lexmark International Inc.
toner cartridges.
"Chief Judge Karl Forester, of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern
District of Kentucky, issued a preliminary injunction in favor of Lexington,
Ky.-based Lexmark. Lexmark filed suit against Static Control, claiming the
company´s Smartek microchip violated the Copyright Act and the Digital
Millennium Copyright Act of 1998.
