RE: [GreenYes] special collections for PAYT
Personally I think people need to take responsibilty for their own
waste...If they have too much trash then they can drop it off themselves,
wait for a special collection, or learn how to reduce waste, reuse waste,
recycle more and compost. In a household of six, we consistantly put out 1
bag of trash each week.

But I guess that isn't going to fly. But you're talking fully automated
collection, right? (The toter is picked up without the worker having to get
out of the truck.) Maybe you need to explain to the guy that in order to
keep cost down or whatever that the residents need to pick a can size that
is suitable for them. Would it make sense to have a 2x/week pickup every
once in a while? That might help? Otherwise just add a bulk pickup day or
something...I guess I just don't understand everyones need for a lot of
trash pickups - since personally I could go with 1x/month pickup if local
ordinance allowed it.

Subject: [GreenYes] special collections for PAYT

Well I have an interesting question for everyone who is familiar with PAYT
programs. The City of Fayetteville is changing over from bag collection to
automated cart collections utilizing 3 different size carts with 3 different
rates. Our Council is convinced that we are somehow not providing good
service if we don't allow for a residence to put out more trash a couple of
times a year (most likely Christmas and Thanksgiving) and not charge them
extra for it. One council man wants to give out extra bags for that purpose
which completely flies in the face of going to the automated cart in the
first place. We have to come up with a plan to allow extra collections
besides having residents bring in the trash themselves. Any ideas? Has
anyone in a PAYT community faced this hurdle also? Thanks.
