I don't know of any reason not to compost paper grocery bags.  If someone knows of some reason that brown paper grocery bags are not safe to compost, then are the bags safe to put next to food?

Are the brown paper bags you get at the grocery store safe to compost? I

like to reuse and recycle them but sometimes they get food-based oil on
them and I hate to just throw them out.
