NYC Group Seeks Recycling Ideas
INFORM, a New York City-based nonprofit environmental
research organization, is requesting submissions of proposals for
community-based outreach projects that will either educate New York City
residents about waste prevention and recycling or establish additional
residential waste prevention and reuse projects in New York City
neighborhoods.
Projects chosen after the request for proposal (RFP) stage will be part
of a Waste Prevention Community Coordinators Program (WPCCP), a pilot
program aimed at improving New York City’s economy and its environment.
Funded by the City Council and the Department of Sanitation, the WPCCP
will be geared toward testing the effectiveness of a variety of
residential waste prevention and reuse initiatives in New York
City.
Seven to ten grants of up to $90,000 each will be awarded to
not-for-profit organizations operating within the five boroughs of New
York City, enabling them to hire one (or more) waste prevention
coordinator(s). The coordinators will work with the Director of the
WPCCP, Eve Martinez, to implement community-based outreach and education
programs and materials collection programs that reduce the amount of
residential waste currently being exported out of state for disposal.
INFORM will host three weekly informational/networking meetings for all
interested parties beginning on Tuesday, August 5, 2002 at 6:00 p.m. at
INFORM’s offices at 120 Wall Street on the 16th floor. INFORM
can be reached at 212-361-2400 for those who have further
questions.
Submission deadline for RFPs is 6:00 p.m. August 27, 2002 if hand
delivered, and postmarked before midnight, August 27, 2002 if
mailed.
INFORM Inc. is a New York-based national environmental research
organization searching for practical ways to reduce municipal and
commercial waste streams.
