RE: [GreenYes] Biodegradable cups for SolFest 2002
good idea.  or using recyclable single serve.  Sometimes I don't like when reusable cups are offered because if often seems who needs another mug or cup - and i think they often end up in the trash anyway...but better than throwaways.
I've often thought about offering disposible cups but charging for them...making people read that they're being charged 50c or a dollar or something for not bringing their own cup.  This is something i've considered for meetings...free drinks if you bring your own or $2 (donation to cause) if you need a paper one.

I realize that you're looking for a supplier of degradable cups, but have you considered simply not supplying disposable cups?  By going against the "standard" procedure of giving disposables away for free, you'd make those attending the Fest acutely aware of the waste issue.  Of course, you'll need to offer inexpensive re-usables for sale, or you'll have dehydrated people all over your venue, and that would never do.

Hello-

I'm part of the facilities and waste management team for SolFest,
(www.solarliving.org) a renewable energy and sustainable living festival in
Northern California.  We're working on making our festival as waste free as
possible and need some help finding a source of affordable, biodegradable
paper cups.

Last year we ordered from Biocorps and put all the used cups straight into a
large compost pile with all the organic and biodegradable waste generated
during the festival.

Currently we are having problems securing the amount of cups we need for the
festival.  Of course we are encouraging people to bring their own but need
to have a signifigant amount on hand for those who ocme unequipped.

Does anyonw have any contacts or ideas for companies doing either cups or
utensils that are intended for festival use and a trip to the compost pile?

Any ideas or suggestions would be most appreciated!

Cheers,

Paul Rosenbloom
