[GreenYes] "Model Bottle Bill" Released
Late last week the State Environmental Resource Center (SERC) released its
version of a "model bottle bill." The model bill is based on Senator
Jeffords's (I-VT) recently introduced beverage producer responsibility
legislation - legislation that SERC believes mitigates industry's concerns
while providing a framework for achieving economic, social and environmental
success.
Learn more by visiting SERC's bottle bill site,
http://serconline.org/bottlebill, and reading CRI's primer on extended
producer responsibility, http://www.container-recycling.org/papers/epr.html.
Background on SERC:
SERC is a collaborative project of the Natural Resources Defense Council and
Defenders of Wildlife that acts as a national clearinghouse for innovative
state environmental policies. Once a state policymaker decides that the he
or she likes a particular approach, SERC gives them the tools necessary
(talking points, bill text, research, etc.) to implement this policy in
their state. In addition, SERC serves a watchdog function of identifying
harmful environmental trends and giving state policy makers the tools to
stop them.
Cheers,
David
