The Triangle J Council of Governments has a good waste spec that we now
include in all capital projects at UNC Chapel Hill. At our first project
this fall, the contractor was amazed to discover that recycling
demolition debris saved him money. He sent commingled loads to Material
Reclamation in Raleigh and they recycled 85% of what was delivered. A
salvage assessment audit is conducted first so anything reusable can be
taken out by other university depts, local architects, and reuse stores
after the contractor is hired.
