> The Environmental Health Division's Recycling Program promotes and
> supports activities to reduce, reuse, and recycle discarded materials in
> the County of Monterey and to meet the State mandate to reduce waste by
> 50%. Specific program areas include commercial, residential, and organic
> waste; market development; and used motor oil recycling. Public outreach
> is an integral part of these programs.
>
> In accordance with solid waste diversion mandates of AB 939 and the County
> of Monterey's solid waste plan, the Solid Waste Section of the
> Environmental Health Division of Monterey County includes both the
> Recycling and Resource Recovery Section and the Solid Waste Local
> Enforcement Agency programs.

> The Recycling Resource and Recovery Assistant works under the supervision
> of the Solid Waste Section Supervisor in collaboration with one Recycling
> and Resource Recovery Specialist and two Recycling and Resource Recovery
> Assistants. The position assists in the implementation of programs and
> services to increase awareness and participation of recycling and waste
> reduction by residents and businesses.

> SIGNIFICANT DUTIES

> * Facilitate education and awareness of the environmental implications
> and desirability of recycling programs through public events and
> presentations.
> * Provide technical support to businesses and residents.
> * Update and maintain directories, materials exchange databases, and
> other information sources.
> * Prepare statistical and narrative reports.
> * Respond to citizen inquiries.
> * Assist with Used Motor Oil and Filter Recycling Program.

> MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
>
> Knowledge: Laws and ordinances affecting recycling programs; Recycling
> techniques and programs related to the environment, energy conservation
> and the economy; Research methods and practices; Public relations and
> advertising approaches to gain support and compliance.
>
> Skills: Plan, coordinate, and implement recycling and waste reduction
> programs; Prepare and present clear and concise reports and
> recommendations, both written and oral; Develop and maintain computerized
> databases; Use spreadsheets and graphics software; Work independently and
> as part of a team; Provide excellent customer service; Establish and
> maintain effective working relationships with staff, other agencies, the
> general public, and the business community.

> Licenses: Possession of a valid Class C driver's license.

> Bilingual English/Spanish skills are desired.
