[GreenYes] fed budget eliminates EPA Office of enviro ed
Maybe like the Tierney article, this will motivate the public to express
a different point of view.

President Bush's budget for 2003 will not fund the EPA's Office of
Environmental Education. As of this Oct. 1, 2002, the office will cease
to exist, along with all its programs.

The Administration has issued statements that EE is not based on "sound
science," that it is ineffective, and that it promotes "activism." The
EE office was established through the 1990 EE Act, which had a 1995
sunset provision. Efforts to extend the program have been stymied each
year. Most recently, the effort failed to get language into last
month's federal education bill, even though the chief sponsors were
Senators James Inhofe, R-Oklahoma, and Hilary Clinton, D-New York.

EE funding is being transferred to the National Science Foundation's
math and science program. Seven (7) million dollars is involved.
