Megan asks if "anyone knows the first city/town that started the idea of
separating
their recyclables into colored (or clear) bags and then having them picked
at the same time, in the same truck, as the regular garbage? As far as I've
heard, Omaha wasn't the first."

There may well be something before this, but NYC inaugurated a three stream
collection on the same truck in 1896 under the leadership of Col. Waring.
