Subject: Look for NY Times and ABC news Thursday

This message is to give everyone who cares about commercialism in schools a heads up for a big media day happening Thursday, September 14. There are several interesting events happening, including the release of a Government Accounting Office (GAO) survey of commercialism in schools.

Also, the Center for Commercial-Free Public Education are releasing our Sample Policies on Commercialism, intended to become an important tool for those who are trying to keep their community schools commercial-free. In addition, there will be an interesting demonstration outside of the Golden Marble awards for "excellence in advertising to children" in New York City.

Please keep an eye out today for:

    1) The New York Times, who will run a big story on the GAO report Thursday morning.

    2) ABC World News Tonight, who will run a story on commercialism in schools featuring community members fighting a Pepsi contract in Oakland, CA and Andrew Hagelshaw, ED of the Center for Commercial-Free Public Education

    3) CBS Evening News, who will do a piece on the backlash against commercialism featuring Prof. Alex Molnar and a few of the Centerıs community contacts that recently fought their way out of a Coke contract in Madison, WI.

There likely will be several other pieces in the next few weeks. Keep an eye out!

You can see the Centersı new Sample School Board Policies on Commercialism at our website: www.commercialfrere.org!
