[GRRN] mobile home recycling

Greetings from hurricane-suffering eastern North Carolina: I would
be interested in any insights regarding the proper end of life for
mobile homes/manufactured housing. There is a growing effort in
N.C. (not related to the hurricanes) to recycle older mobile homes
by dismantling them, and salvaging the doors, windows, cabinets,
wood framing and metal. However, other components include
carpet, tile (which may contain asbestos) and fiberglass insulation.
Needless to say, we do not yet have the economics working in our
favor. Yet, there is growing pressure from zoning officials to
remove old homes. In Michigan, mobile home buyers can buy a
certificate for $100 from the manufacturer's assocation -- this
certificate is then redeemed at a designated metal recycler -- the
homes are crushed whole, the metal extracted and the rest goes to
a lined landfill. We wonder, is this going to become our best or
