DUTIES: The intern will assist in writing, editing, laying out, and
distributing the Congress Daily. Depending on the skills and interests of
the intern, specific tasks may include quickly writing concise articles
based on sessions and interviews with speakers and attendees, proofreading
articles written by others, laying out the Congress Daily in PageMaker,
obtaining information and approvals from NRC staff, and coordinating the
printing and distribution of the newsletter. These duties will require
approximately 15-20 hours, with the majority of the work taking place on
Monday and Tuesday, September 27-28. Evening and early morning work is
expected. The intern should arrive in Cincinnati no later than the evening
of Sunday, September 26 and leave no earlier than the morning of Wednesday,
September 29.
STIPEND: The intern will receive one full registration to the Annual
Congress & Exposition and a $400 stipend. In addition, the intern will have
the opportunity to meet many of today's leaders and employers in the waste
prevention, reuse, and recycling fields. The intern will be responsible for
all other expenses including travel, accommodations, and meals.
SKILLS: The ideal candidate is a college student, recent graduate, or
career changer interested in a career in environmental journalism, public
relations, environmental education, or waste prevention, reuse or recycling.
Excellent writing, editing and people skills are required, as is the ability
to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
