In answer to Joe Truini's question about the waste generated at the latest
Woodstock "festival" (read disaster), you might try contacting the Solid
Waste Authority of Oneida/Herkimer Counties. Ask for David Lupinski, the
Solid Waste Director at 315-733-1224. They may have some information about
how much waste was generated (discounting all the stuff--including hospital
tents, speaker towers, and tractor-trailers--that was torched at the
festival end by the good kids just having fun!) and where it went. Sounds
like security was woefully insufficient. My guess is that waste management,
ie, recycling, were even more inadequate. Considering the number of cases
of drug overdoses, bad sunburn, heat prostration, dehydration, heart
attacks, hysterical lost teens, etc., recycling was the least of the
organizers' worries.
