HOURS OF WORK: 40 Hour Workweek (M- F, 7:30 - 4:30, occasional evening and
weekend work)
SALARY: $27,490 PLUS EXTENSIVE BENEFITS
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Manager, Office of Recycling and Waste Reduction,
the
Administrative Assistant will provide a wide variety of support services to
facilitate the work of the department. These services will fall in the
following general categories:
Education and Outreach--
Provides recycling information, on site assistance and monitoring of where
recycling is not occurring; keeps customer hotline and web page up to date,
edits quarterly newsletter and coordinates mailing for campus delivery;
provides feedback departments on recycling volumes and environmental savings;
issues press releases; coordinates placement of informational recycling signs
around the campus; other related duties.
Customer Service--
Responds to inquiries and service requests from campus refuse and recycling
customers. communicates with departmental contacts whose recyclables are
contaminated; provides instruction to new participants on proper recyclables
preparation; monitors collection troublespots; occasionally provides special
pick up of recyclables; prepares oversees recycling container delivery;
maintains list of outlets for "hard to recycle materials" and other related
duties.
Collection Service Support--
Communicates with Operations Supervisor daily regarding missed refuse and
recycling pick ups or overflows;
Produces daily route data sheets for refuse and recycling collections.
Data Management--
Oversees entry, processes, and compiles data on a wide variety of recycling and
refuse programs, and other related duties.
Project Support--
Assists the Manager and Operations Supervisor on specific projects by doing
research, word processing, graphics design, scheduling;
routine purchasing; invoice processing and fund ledger reconciliation and other
logistical support as needed.
Other Maintenance and Support--
Coordinates use of recycling containers at special events such as student
moveout, sorts these materials as needed, monitors condition of public area
recycling containers and repairs them as needed.
Student Supervision--
Oversees and directs the student employee support team, which consists of
hourly workers and interns.
REQUIRED:
BA/BS, in Natural Resources/Environmental Studies, Communications, Education or
related, Min. 6 mos. experience in recycling education or combination of
education and experience.
STRONGLY DESIRED:
Working knowledge of both Mac OS and Windows 95 or NT; Corel 8 Suite
(WordPerfect, Quattro Pro); knowledge of PageMaker/Illustrator/PhotoShop,
Filemaker Pro; and use of basic accounting software (ie Quicken); photography;
excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and organizational
skills
Essential abilities include self motivation, flexibility, high productivity,
and ability to follow instructions accurately; must be a quick learner and good
problem solver.
Valid Michigan Chauffeur license. Ability to do some outdoor/physical labor.
