I'm passing along an interesting web page with a program to do very
simple Life Cycle Assessments that was sent to me in response to my
recent inquiry on PS foam coffee cups.

This program was developed by Carnegie Mellon University, building
upon an commodity input-output model of the US Department of
Commerce that incorporates 500 commodity sectors. The LCA model
calculates various environmental impacts, including energy use, toxic
material releases, the economic value of conventional air pollution, etc,
based on a dollar amount of a particular product produced.

The web page also has references to other work going on in this field.
