Dear List Members:

As we all know, effective fundraising is an essential activity for
sustaining the efforts of non-profit advocacy based organizations. I know
that auctions (e.g. silent auctions) have been one tool that many
organizations that I am familiar with have either at least tried once or
even use regularly. Those who follow e-commerce trends know that there has
been a phenomenal growth in web-based auctions, spurred in large part by
the huge success of the E-bay site. I would like to suggest, for those
organizations that use auctions as a fundraising tool, that they consider
testing the efficacy of web based auctions. As a way to get you started, I
have provided a link to the E-Bay site that describes how that service can
be used for fundraising purposes.

I am going to take a closer look myself at this subject in the near future
and discuss its potential with some organizations that I am currently a
member of. There are also some active fundraising auctions that can be
viewed as examples at the E-bay site. There may be other auction sites
with similar fundraising services but I have not done any further research
along these lines. I would be curious to know if any other list member has
done any similar investigations and what the results of these
investigations were.

Sincerely,
