HOURS OF WORK: 37.50 Hour Workweek
CONTRACT LENGTH: 2 YEARS
SALARY: $13.82 PER HOUR PLUS EXTENSIVE BENEFITS

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the supervision of the Recycling Director, the Recycling
Administrative Aide will provide a wide variety of support services to
facilitate the work of the Recycling Division. These services will
fall in the following general categories:

Customer Service
Responds to inquiries from residents, businesses, city employees and
building managers; communicates with residents whose recyclables are
rejected; provides "at the curb" instruction to residents on proper
recyclables preparation; monitors collection troublespots; occasionally
provides special pick up of recyclables; prepares recycling bins for
delivery; delivers recycling toters; maintains list of outlets for "hard
to recycle materials" and other related duties.

Education and Outreach
Provides recycling information, on site assistance and monitoring at
buildings where recycling is not occurring; maintains supplies of
recycling literature in public places; keeps Recycling InfoLine, cable
TV bulletin boards, on-line announcements and web page up to date,
coordinates mail house service for city-wide recycling mailings;
provides feedback to city employees on internal recycling program;
issues standard press releases; supplies recycling information to
newcomers through a variety of means; coordinates placement of
informational recycling signs around the city and other related duties.

Collection Service Coordination
Communicates with collection contractor daily regarding missed pick ups;
arranges and confirms collections from Recycling Drop-off Center and
other related duties.

Data Compilation
Processes data and compiles statistics on a wide variety of recycling
programs, and other related duties.

Project Support
Assists the Recycling Director and Assistant Director on specific
projects by doing research, word processing, copying, scheduling;
routine purchasing; invoice processing and providing other logistical
support as needed.

Other maintenance and support
Coordinates use of recycling containers at fairs and festivals, sorts
festival recyclables and cleans containers; delivers some drop-off
recyclables to recycling outlets, inventories and maintains stocks of
recycling containers in organized fashion; monitors condition of public
area recycling containers and does repairs as needed; arranges for
re-supply of compost and wood chips at Recycling Drop-off Center;
removes reusable parts from broken toters; arranges for recycling of
remainder, and other related duties.

Some early morning, evening and weekend work will be required.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Exel, Lotus Approach, working
knowledge of PageMaker software on IBM Windows helpful; excellent
written and verbal communication, interpersonal and organizational
skills required; essential abilities include self motivation,
flexibility, high productivity, and ability to follow instructions
accurately; must be a quick learner and good problem solver.

Typing speed of a least 30 mailable words per minute. Valid
Massachusetts Class C driver's license. Ability to do some outdoor
physical labor.
